JAMES W. WINKELMAN, MD

Dr. James W. Winkelman is the recently retired Director of Clinical Laboratories of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as a Vice President of the Hospital. Jim held the rank of Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School, Boston—the only one of such rank who is identified with the specialty of Clinical Pathology.

Dr. Winkelman is a Johns Hopkins Medical School Graduate, and was an intern at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland; a Research Associate at the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, Bethesda, Maryland; a Resident in Pathology at New York University, New York, New York; Assistant Professor of Pathology, New York university School of Medicine, New York, New York; and Clinical Associate professor of Pathology, UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr. Winkelman joined BioScience Laboratories, Van Nuys, California, and held positions as Laboratory Director and President. He was the Executive Vice President and Director of Scientific Affairs at National Health Laboratories, La Jolla, California.

Prior to moving to his former position in 1986, Dr. Winkelman returned to academic medicine upon becoming the Director of Laboratories and Professor of Pathology at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, New York.
